Hello and welcome to MySelf Builder, where we coach, mentor, and inspire others to become the best version of themselves. Today we're talking about what it means to be a bridge builder.
A bridge builder is someone who develops strong relationships, connections, and brings people together. We usually see the need for bridge builders when there's conflict involved between different groups, but they can also be someone who creates and shares opportunities with others.
This is one of the themes in my new children's book, "The Builder in Me." Without giving too much away, the story is about a kid named Jugo who tries to construct something special when a big change happens in his life. Hugo teaches us an important message about helping others as he begins to understand what it means to be a bridge builder.
In real life, we want to surround ourselves with people who are bridge builders and not bridge burners. A bridge burner is someone who disrupts relationships, gets involved in conflict, and has a negative mindset.
If you've ever heard the saying, "Don't burn your bridges," then it's referring to this concept. It means that we should try as best as we can to stay on positive terms with people, work together to find solutions, respect others and do what we can to help others be successful.
Here are a few tips for bridge builders:
1) First, identify someone who is willing to help you accomplish a task. They may be a teacher, classmate, coach, teammate, supervisor, coworker, relative or someone else.
2) When we're facing challenges, we think about our problems, our feelings and what we need. As bridge builders, we should still seek ways to help others with the resources we have, even when we're going through a difficult situation.
3) And finally, don't hold grudges, stay angry too long, or let the actions of others change your personality. If we can focus on maintaining healthy relationships and avoiding bridge burners, then we'll find ourselves surrounded by positive influencers.
While it's not always easy or simple, maintaining a good level of positivity and respect towards others allows us to grow, keep our character in check, and prepares us for the next part of our journey. As we continue to work towards becoming the best version of ourselves, remember to seek ways to build and navigate through bridges that lead to opportunities that will help us grow.
