Hello and welcome to MySelf Builder. This month, we're talking about what it means to love yourself and to love others.
We use the word "love" to describe liking, enjoying, or caring about something or someone.
We can also use “love” as a way to explain our feelings and relationships towards people, our families, our pets, special places and experiences.
Natalie Cole, who was a famous singer and actress, once said, “The greatest thing you’ll ever learn is to love and be loved in return.”
Self-love involves taking care of your needs first without feeling pressured to please or compare yourself to others.
In order to develop self-love, you should:
Focus on what makes you unique
Think and speak positively about yourself
Build routines around activities that make you feel purposeful, happy, and allow you to relax
Some faith and spiritual practices highlight the idea of loving others unconditionally, even if someone treats you wrong. How is it possible to “take the high road” by loving and being kind to someone who mistreats you or makes you feel bad?
Love is connected to finding peace, healing, and happiness. The opposite of love is hate, which represents conflict, harm, and anger. If we waste our time and energy by getting revenge and reacting to conflict, then that will only allow more anger and frustration to develop. Focusing on healing and finding peace and happiness will cancel out negativity.
Dr. King said, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”
Remember that loving ourselves involves being surrounded with the right people, right activities, and right objects that make us feel good about who we are.
Once we're able to develop self-love, then we can carry that energy forward by loving others, forgiving others, and creating peaceful solutions.
If we can continue to focus on spreading love and positivity, then we'll advance along the path towards "building ourselves & becoming our best."
Keep building...with love ❤️
